Joey Miles London Workshop
8:00am — 3:30pm | All Levels
The weekend will comprise of Mysore classes in the mornings and workshops in the afternoons. Saturday afternoon will be a dynamic alignment-based workshop. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the mechanics of individual poses and of categories of poses, allowing you to apply these guidelines in a wider variety of poses than those you practice within this class. As you progress to more challenging poses, this learning will empower you to work more intelligently and effectively.
Sunday afternoon will be a restorative session. Leaning towards a mood of ease. All physical effort is relinquished, the body is encouraged to rest and passively release tension in a series of supported poses. Subtlety of awareness is possible when we leave aside intense sensations. The mood of the class is introspective and although many of the poses are deceptively gentle, they have the potential to create a profound shift in your inner state.
SATURDAY 10th October
8-10.30am Mysore practice & meditation Guided sitting meditation followed by Mysore Style Class, (suitable for all levels except complete beginners - you need to be at ease in the Mysore room while not being continuously guided.)
1.30-3.30pm Afternoon workshop From Gross to Subtle: Clarification and practice of leg work in standing poses- learn to connect the feet and legs to the energy within the spine. Having re-awakened this connectivity of Earth to Legs to Spine in standing poses we shall go on to explore some simple seated poses that can be used for stillness and meditation whilst maintaining the awakened presence through the spine and heart.

About Joey MilesJoey Miles
Joey came to yoga in 1998 after a misspent youth pursuing the circus, martial arts and physical theatre. While at Goldsmiths University studying a BA in Drama, he set up and directed the Yoga Society there, doing his practice of seva (service). On graduating he began assisting Hamish Hendry at Astanga Yoga London and for 3 years he practised and assisted daily. During this time he spent 2-3 months every year in Mysore with Pattabhi Jois and Sharath.
In 2004 he was authorised to teach the primary series by Pattabhi Jois and following that taught daily Mysore classes from 2005-2008 at Triyoga in Primrose Hill, London. In 2009 he relocated to Hebden Bridge and set up Ashtanga Yoga Leeds with the intention of supporting people’s daily yoga practice.
In 2012 Joey received Authorisation Level 2, meaning he has Sharath’s blessing to teach the full Intermediate Series. More recently in 2014, Joey completed the 3rd series under Sharath’s guidance at the KPJAYI in Mysore.

A long class on a Sunday with Kath
12:30pm — 3:00pm | All Levels
In this longer class we have a little more time to go in depth with aspects of asana technique. Usually there will be more inversions, (handstand, forearm balance, headstand) but it does vary. The class will take the form of a flowing, dynamic, alignment based asana class, finishing with some simple breathing practices and short sitting meditation, and a longer guided relaxation, yoga nidra. Not suitable for complete beginners, but all levels are welcome.
£30 (sliding scale £15-£25)
